Nick Trammell Joins Mark Trammell Quartet

Clayton and Scott Inman.  Randy and Scoot Shelnut.  Rick and David Fair.  Tim and Daniel Riley.  Add one more father/son combo to the list.  It was announced last night via Facebook that Nick and Jessica Trammell are departing Jessica’s family group, The Browns.  The couple recently celebrated the birth of their first child, and Jessica is coming off the road to take care of baby Tessa.  Nick Trammell is joining his father’s quartet as lead singer replacing Dustin Sweatman, who has accepted a job as the Renaissance Program Director of Choirs at Bethel University here in West Tennessee.  These changes will all take place after NQC, though the new lineup will debut a new recording during the convention.

In this instance, I’m very much interested in the sound of the group.  The other father/son duos mentioned above all have fairly distinctive sounding voices.  Nick Trammell has a voice and style that is very close to his father’s, especially when compared to his father’s voice at the same age.  It will almost sound like Mark is singing with his younger self!  The press release from Mark, available here, also hints at the group hiring a full time pianist after NQC.

Best wishes to Dustin in his new duties, and to Nick and Jessica as they have welcomed a new baby at home, and to Nick as he stands beside his father to share the good news of the gospel!

Catching Up

A couple of blurbs caught my attention over the past week or so.

  • Nick and Jessica Trammell have folded their trio and are joining forces with Jessica’s family group, The Browns.  With the rest of the family located in Iowa and the Trammells in Alabama, that will make for a challenge meeting the bus!  Plans are already under way for a new recording, so stay tuned.
  • Ernie Haase and Wayne Haun have officially launched Stow Town Records.  First up by the label is a George Younce solo album with EHSS singing backup and a Doug Anderson solo album.  Also notable is that the Collingsworth Family has been signed to the label as well, I’ll be very interested to hear their first release on Stow Town.
  • NewSoGoFan, a frequent commenter here and former contributor at Daniel Mount’s site, has launched out on her own and started a blog: Southern Gospel Yankee.  Welcome to the blog world!
  • Diana caught a performance by Wilburn & Wilburn.  True duos are a bit rare in SG, so it will be interesting to see how they are received.  For what it’s worth, Jordan Wilburn definitely has a nice voice, and his dad’s vocal prowess is well known, so here’s hoping for the best!
  • Finally, here’s the reason for my absence:

YouTube Clip #16

Wes is tied up today so here is another YouTube clip for you.  With the announced departure of Nick Trammell from The Perrys this week, I thought it would be a good time to post a clip of him with the group he has been with for the past two and a half years.  I will admit although I miss the fuller sound of the Harris/Habedank combination, it seemed Nick and Joseph had a special connection and chemistry from the stage.

Nick Trammell Departs The Perrys

According to an email from the Perrys, Nick Trammell has tendered his resignation with the group.  There are no concrete plans for Nick at this time, and Troy Peach will be filling in until a permanent replacement is named.  Best wishes to Nick and the Perrys in their time of transition.
