SG’s Big Night At The Doves

Southern Gospel had a pretty big night at the Dove Awards Wednesday night.  You can see all the winners in the SG related categories here, but in the biggest surprise, Jason Crabb took home the overall Song of the Year for “Sometimes I Cry.”  This the first time since the Blackwood Brothers took home the award in 1977 for “Learning to Lean” that a Southern Gospel song has won the award.  While there have been several since with SG connections (The Imperials  “Praise the Lord” in 1981, Michael English “In Christ Alone” in 1994, for example) this is a pretty big win for SG.  Congratulations to Jason and writer Gerald Crabb!  Hopefully this is the start of a trend.

One Response to SG’s Big Night At The Doves

  1. Honestly, I hate to be a party-pooper, but if they were going to give an award to something in SG, I think “Love Came Calling” is a much better song. Still, it’s nice and significant that SG took the award.
