A Rare Cut From The Kingsmen Revisited

I’m still going through my CDs and ripping them for my iPod.  For those who care about statistics and such, I’m up to 3847 SG songs and 5475 total.

One of the projects I just added was the Singing News Just Call It Southern! Original 2 CD set I got when I renewed my subscription a few years ago.  On disc 1, track 11 is the Kingsmen song “You’re Not Alone.”  The transition between Chris Collins and Jerry Martin occurred while this song was still the active radio single for the group, and not long after Martin came on board, the group sent him to the studio to re-record Collins’ vocal on the song.  The Martin version was then sent to radio, and got some airplay as the single was still on the charts.  Parker Jonathan told me around that time that they never put the new version with Jerry on any recordings, it was solely done for radio, and wasn’t commercially available.  Guess which version happens to be on this CD?  You’re right, the version with Jerry Martin.  As far as I know, this is the only place you can get this particular version of the song, which would tend to make it rather rare.  Martin’s take on the song is fantastic, so if you have this compilation, pull it out and give it a listen.  This is exactly the kind of thing that would be great on a Kingsmen box set.

I love Jerry’s version of that song. Do you have an idea of how I may go about getting a copy of this CD?

The only options I can suggest are eBay, Amazon, or you may try getting in touch with the Singing News to see if they have it available.

Have something to say?
