The Legacy Of Greater Booths

OK, so that doesn’t quite have the ring to it that “King’s Gold” does, but regardless, a nice little morsel buried in L5′s latest e-newsletter is that Legacy 5, Greater Vision, and the Booth Brothers have recorded an album of SG classics (with a couple of new tunes) entitled Jubilee.  Of course the song with the same name is included, as are classics like “Life Will Be Sweeter Someday” and “You Better Hurry Up” along with a new tune called “Someone Who Cares For You.”  The newsletter states that this was a joint idea from Scott Fowler, Gerald Wolfe, and Michael Booth.  A formal release announcement is expected in the next few weeks.  If KingsGold was any indication, this should be an incredibly successful release.  I for one am anxious to hear it!

Legacy Five Offering Downloadable Sheet Music

In their latest e-newsletter, Legacy Five discusses their frequent requests for sheet music.  Kudos to them for being honest enough to say that there just isn’t enough demand to make printing the songbooks economically feasible (money that is better spent elsewhere), but they’ve come up with an interesting alternative.  They are going to be offering a pdf download of the sheet music to the song “God’s Been Good” for $5 on their website.  They will print you off a copy and mail it to you for $8.  They are just experimenting with this one song (which they have said is the most requested for sheet music), and if it goes well, they may offer downloadable sheet music for other songs as well, and potentially even full albums.  This is a great idea, and a good way to think “out of the box” to meet a significant, if not numerically large, demand.  Do you know of any other groups that offer pdf downloads of sheet music?

Groups That Need The Career Making Song

In a comment on Daniel Mount’s post about the Collingsworth Family’s latest single, an interesting question is brought up about groups that may be top notch groups that have not had that one song that puts them “on the map” or “over the top”, so to speak.  Think Gold City and “Midnight Cry”, the Cathedrals and “Champion of Love”, the Nelons and “Oh For A Thousand Tongues”, etc.  Of course, off the top of my head I came up with the obvious new groups that are poised to do so:  the aforementioned Collingsworth Family, the Dills, the Crist Family, the Ball Brothers, Tribute Quartet, and so on.  Then my brain went into overdrive and I came up with two well established and wildly popular groups who still fit the above criteria:

  • Legacy 5
  • Triumphant Quartet

As popular as these two groups are, and as talented as they are (two of my favorites, even), I still can’t point to the one “monster” song that has defined their career.  Legacy 5′s closest is probably their debut single, “I Stand Redeemed”, but it still isn’t the “signature song” that “Midnight Cry”, “When He Was On The Cross”, or “Get Away Jordan” has been.  With Triumphant it is even harder, though “Don’t Let The Sandals Fool Ya” was and is pretty popular for them.  What do YOU think?  And who would you add to the list of groups that still haven’t had that one smash of a song that is a line in the sand and a measuring stick for all others?

Tim Parton Redux

Tim Parton has reconsidered his decision, and is now staying with Legacy 5.  This is great news for the group, as Parton has really had a very positive impact on the group.  See the press release here, if you are a Singing News subscriber.

Tim Parton Leaves Legacy 5

According to their latest newsletter, Tim Parton is leaving Legacy 5.  Apparently his schedul is staying a bit too full with L5′s touring and his studio work, so he will be leaving the road.  This presents an interesting situation for Legacy 5, as Parton filled in for Roger Bennett while Roger was sick, and slid very naturally into the full time pianist slot upon Roger’s death.  Parton’s incredible ability on the piano, as well as his skill in arranging, really helped L5 weather the storm around Roger’s untimely passing and start a new era in the group’s still fairly short history.  It will be very interesting to see how the group comes through this change.  Best wishes and God’s blessings to both Tim and Legacy 5 as they enter this period of transition.  This is definitely a story to keep watching.

Magnificent Gospel Showcase

While surfing Dish Network lately, I’ve come across a show on Angel2 called “Magnificent Gospel Showcase”. Last night, they had The Galloways, and last week it was The Martins. They have a website here, that is simply a store where you can buy DVDs of their programs, among other items. I can’t seem to find much out about this show, other than it was done at the White House theater in Branson, which I am guessing is the same White House that was the stage for Legacy 5′s latest DVD. Does anyone know if this show is still active? My wife and I are going to Branson for our anniversary in a couple weeks, if this show is still active, we’d definitely look into attending while we are there. The White House website just lists “The Magnificent Seven”.
