Gold City: A Tribute To Doug Riley In The Works

According to their latest e-newsletter, Gold City is currently in the studio working on a tribute to Doug Riley.  This is very touching and fitting, though I’m a bit surprised it wasn’t done sooner.  Daniel mentions that it will be a two volume tribute, but they are currently only working on volume one.  Doug wrote quite a few songs for GC, including the title cut to the Are You Ready album, and also had some that were cut by other artists.  “Jesus Won My Battle” comes to mind immediately, and was cut by the Kingsmen on You’re Not Alone.  I really hope this is one of the songs that GC covers, as I loved the Kingsmen cut of the song.  Daniel also mentions that there are a lot of songs that were never recorded, so we should get a some “new” material from Doug Riley’s pen as well.  I for one am anxious for this release.  Doug was an integral part of Gold City for nearly 20 years, and such a tribute is well deserved.  Kudos to Daniel and the guys for doing it right, as well.  I can’t think of a more fitting tribute to Doug than to be commemorated through the songs he left with us.
