It seems that frequently an artist will emerge from NQC that could be classified as a breakout artist, as their appearance at NQC catapults them to the forefront of the industry. The original Mercy’s Mark, Legacy Five, and to a possibly lesser extent the Dove Brothers come immediately to mind. For those of you attending or listening/watching online, what artist that you’ve seen at NQC this week do you think could emerge as a breakout artist at this year’s convention. Obviously the A-listers need not apply (they’re already there), but has there been a somewhat more unknown/obscure artist that has particularly impressed?

They are not a new or young group, but the Dixie Echoes definitely showed that they deserve more of my attention.
Brandon, from what I’ve been reading, that is exactly who I had thought about. If nothing else, they may find themselves more in the forefront rather than an almost afterthought. Can’t think of anyone more deserving, either. They sure impressed me a few weeks ago.
Dixie Echoes deserve more attention, for sure.
I know y’all listening online might not have caught the Fan Awards pre-show, but Liberty Quartet was there and did quite well. The group winner in the Talent Contest, the Taylors, also did quite well.
Oh, and as soon as I post that, I finally recall the answer: Jacob Kitson.
I heard buzz from more than one source about a young tenor singer named Daniel Crews. I did not get a chance to hear him sing, unfortunately, but when well-known, accomplished tenor singers are telling me, “You really need to hear this guy,” I think that’s significant.
Here’s a shaky-cam link:
[...] Burke over at Burke’s Brainwork asks what NQC 2008’s breakout artist was. This year, I do not think it was a group as much as it [...]
I was impressed by the convention as a whole, but I agree about the dixie echoes deserving more attention. Two other groups that i thought had great sets were Legacy 5 and Soul’d Out. Legacy 5 is one of the classiest groups out there in my opinion, and I really liked the energy that Soul’d Out brought back to the stage after follwing the Inspirations. Also, Taranda Greene was by far the best female singer on the stage this year.
Thanks for sharing that clip DBM. He sounds great.
A group that impressed us at the regional showcase was a trio called Shields Of Faith. They sang a song “A Good Day”. It really blessed us.
