How many of you were involved with the growing of the computer age in Southern Gospel Music? My first recollection of anything computer related to the genre was Parker Johnathan telling me that the Singing News had a BBS (Bulletin Board System) where you could dial in (literally) and check out a basic message board and email system. With the growing availability of the internet and email, it expanded eventually to a Singing News email list. Then a wonderful thing happened. Harold Timmons opened a great chat room for Southern Gospel Fans to gather and chat with one another (this is actually where Wes and I began our friendship). The SN email list eventually was to be shut down and The Unthanks offered to start a new email list and eventually became sogospelnews.com. Although most of the activity moved to the message board on the site, the email list remained active and is still active today with a recent move from yahoo groups to google groups. A wonderful prayer warrior that has been around since those early times has gone home. On Monday, June 30th at 2:10pm a shocking message was sent on the SoGospel News email list that Bob Whitehead had passed away 2 days earlier. He will be greatly missed by all of his online friends…both those he had frequent contact with as well as the lurkers like me that enjoyed reading his messages of encouragement. We’ll meet again Microsoft Bob!
