I had the honor of attending The Steve Hurst School of Music for 3 summers. One of those years Dottie Rambo came and did a concert. There was something special about hearing those songs I had heard all my life being sung by the author. I laughed, cried, and worshiped during what would turn out to be one of my favorite concerts I have ever attended. It was just her on a stool with her guitar. No fancy lights, orchestras, or stacks. Just an incredible lady sharing her amazing stories and her gifts.
I looked through several YouTube clips this mornings trying to find one to share on this site. I think this one is perfect. It starts out with the powerful “He Looked Beyond My Fault” and goes to Dottie singing “Too Much To Gain To Lose” with The Martins. Dottie has gained very much indeed.

I met Dottie Rambo at a concert in Tallassee, AL in 1977. My mom had just died 2 years prior, I was depressed and hopeless. When I saw this beautiful, well-dressed, classy lady share about her life and how she was kicked out of her home at the age of twelve…I rededicated my life to Christ. Because she survived a hard life and did something great for God, I knew I could too. I wrote her letters, set with her at concerts and wanted so desperately, as a child, to sing with her.
She encouraged me and told me to go after my dreams. I had everyone of her albums and I played them when my home life was out of control. I would listen to her music and God’s presence would fill my room and bring comfort.
I did overcome through the grace of God! I am now Co-Pastor of a church in Decatur, AL. I speak at Women’s Conferences around the nation sharing the same hope and love Dottie Rambo shared with me when I was 12. I wonder where I would be if I hadn’t of had that divine encounter with Dottie. My life was forever changed. Her music lead me into the presence of Christ where I found hope, healing and peace. I learned to sing and minister from her example. She loved people and made a huge difference in my life. May we all follow our passion and serve Jesus with our whole hearts. When we do miracles happen.
