There are a few interesting tidbits in the SG world right now. I don’t have enough info or opinion to dedicate an entire blog post to each individually, but they are at least worth mentioning.
- Sad news in the passing of Ray Bullard. The Anchormen have been instrumental in launching the careers of several of our top performers, like David Hill, Steve Ladd, Jeff Chapman, and Aaron McCune. Our prayers are with his family.
- Anthony Facello has changed the name of his group from Crossroad to Beyond the Ashes. It is definitely an original name, and is more CCM sounding.
- The Hoppers are #1 for March on the Singing News chart. Hopefully Canaan can parlay this momentum into some real movement by the label, as they haven’t done much other than signing the Hoppers as of yet.
- Along with restricting the website access again, Singing News is now charging for their job postings. They are running a special right now of $9.95 per posting. This seems to have cut into the number of postings quite substantially. A rough, eyeball estimate is that there are about 1/3 the number of posted listings to what there was as a free submission. Some reduction was necessary (read: trimming the fat), but I wonder how much of a reduction they foresaw.
