Christmas Hidden Gem: The Kingdom Heirs – Feliz Navidad

I know what you are thinking. “OK, Wes has lost his ever-lovin’ mind now.” Well, you can’t lose something you never had to begin with, but besides that, I’m proving that I do have a sense of humor. No, this song in no way is a hidden gem in the vein of “Heaven’s Child” or “Hand Of Sweet Release.” I’m not claiming that at all, but hear me out. Around this time each year, things start to get really stressful. Last minute Christmas shopping (just try doing it with a 2 year old and 10 month old!), parties, planning for trips, trying to finish up projects at work before you leave for the year, all the pressures of the season. Then you come across this song. It doesn’t even pretend to be a serious performance of the song. As Dennis Murphy says, “Don’t listen to the words, listen to the way I sing it… . ” When you start getting stressed, pull this song out and listen to it. It is just funny. You won’t want to listen to it over and over again, to be sure. (It does get just a BIT annoying.) But at those times that you are about to rip someone’s arm off because they cut in front of you to get the last Tickle Me Elmo Special Edition (whatever that means, my parents got one for my son…), take a listen, smile, get a goofy laugh, and go on with your business. In that sense, this can truly be considered a hidden gem. Thank goodness, I’m not totally off my rocker here!

One Response to Christmas Hidden Gem: The Kingdom Heirs – Feliz Navidad

This is funny….because of the 4 Christmas albums I have of the Kingdom Heirs, this song is the only one that I consistently skip. I can’t stand it…..but I do like Dennis’ other songs on their later releases.
