SG Box Sets

In addition to Southern Gospel, I also enjoy listening to the Beach Boys (can’t beat the harmony!).  I recently purchased a 5 CD box set of the Beach Boys covering their career from 1961-1993.  This got me thinking, why are there no box sets for Southern Gospel artists?  Groups like The Statesmen, The Cathedrals, Gold City, The Goodmans, The Inspirations, The Florida Boys, and others who have been around for ages definitely have the material to cover such a thing.  My Beach Boys set includes unreleased tracks that didn’t make the cut on albums.  Does this happen in SG?  Do you record say 16 tracks and then limit your CD to the best 12?  If so, that provides some great material for a box set.  Who wouldn’t like to hear a couple of unreleased gems by the Cathedrals?  I would think there is definitely a market for these sets.  What do you think?

Congratulations Tigers

I just told reader DJM yesterday that I would do 90-95% SG posting on this blog, but the events of the last 72 hours necessitate another sports posting, so please just indulge me.  First, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Taylor Bradford, a reserve defensive lineman for the University of Memphis who was murdered on campus Sunday evening.  It is a terrible and senseless act of violence, and since both of my siblings are still students at the U of M, more than a little unsettling.  In spite of the loss, the decision was made by the team to play last night’s scheduled game against Marshall.  With this the 3rd game in 11 days for Memphis, the emotion of the tragedy still fresh, and some still questionable playcalling, the Tigers managed to win 24-21.  This was a big win for the team, and may shed a little light amongst all the darkness of the past few days.
